How does law enforcement monitor gang activity?
Life as a military policeman MP
The military has its own police force, separate from the Department of Defense police - also known as the DoD Police. The military version of law enforcement is known as the MP or Military Police.
There is a difference between the Department of Defense Police DoD and the Military Police MP. The DoD Police are actually a civil law enforcement agency that visits the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center FLETC to work for the Department of Defense, will see them working side by side with Military Police officers who are in the MP MOS or Masters At Arms Rating Navy:

In the military police training you will learn law, UCMJ, melee MP style, weapons, shooting, driving vehicles, boats, trucks, jeeps. MPs are taught that they are alone in the army and that they mustbe the most professional soldiers at all times. You will be taught to “set standards”. After graduation, the new MP sets off to become a unit.
not just cops
The Military Police and Armourers of the Navy direct, manage, monitor and conduct protective measures for the armed forces, including the use of lethal force to protect personnel and resources. You will work in various field environments, conduct individual and team patrol movements; both assembled and dismantled, tactical exercises, combat procedures, convoys, military operations other than war, counter-terrorism tasks, and other special tasks. MPs and AF security forces also protect nuclear and conventional weapon systems and other resources. They also perform air base defense functions that contribute to the defense mission of the armed forces. The MP also controls and secures the premises inside and outside of military facilities. Above all, the MP defends personnel, equipment and resources from enemy forces.
Most units rotate through safety cycles on a basis. For example, at Ft. Leonard Wood an average cycle: a month of law enforcement, a month of access control, a month of training. During the month of access control, MPs work on the gatesChecking IDs MPs also issue basic tickets and ensure that only authorized personnel and their vehicles enter the post office. During the month of law enforcement, they patrol the base in vehicles and on foot. The grassroots MPs also respond to emergency calls and general complaints. Using RADAR to enforce speeding laws and of course to watch stop signs in the event of violations is also part of the job description. The training month serves as preparation for field missions. These can consist of basic soldier skills or advanced unit-related missions; some units train to escort prisoners of war during the war, others train to assist forward-looking units in finding their way. A security unit can be assigned to set up a holding area such as Camp X-Ray for prisoners or inmates.
Personal difficulties of the military police
Military police are just soldiers doing another job. They carry guns with live ammunition every day. They write tickets for military personnel and others well above their own pay levels. MPs face weekly combat situations on the lawns of soldiers' homes. Most people are usually indifferent to the MPs. While many fellow soldiers and their families are sleeping or on vacation, they are working on the streets and gates of the base and the base residential areas. A crew of MPs stands guard or patrols the base 24 hours a day. You can call the MP station and call a dispatcher 365 days a year. That's the way MP work. Yes, securing a base for your fellow soldiers and families can be difficult, but in the end, the MP knows that keeping the peace is part of the job.
