What races classify as brown people

How people became white, black, yellow and red: On the history of racist exclusion through skin color

How did it come about that, even if we are not racists, we can identify people of other skin color so surely as black, yellow, red, but know how to separate ourselves as white so neatly? How long have we been doing this? And finally: What is going on in us that we need such tinting of the other?
