A well thought-out and individually adapted daily routine allows you to work more productively and efficiently. Thanks to defined processes, you waste less time and concentrate on the essentials. Instead of getting lost in the little things, the focus is on priorities in the daily routine.

Required discipline for the daily routine

The positive effect of a daily routine should be viewed with one caveat: You need discipline. It is not always easy to stick to it, especially at the beginning, when you are establishing the routine. Only then does the entire concept make sense - and deserve the name daily routine.

How can I develop a daily routine?

Anyone who wants to develop a daily routine is often faced with the question: Where should I even start? The day is already prescribed by working hours, private appointments, tasks and obligations. How can you develop a better daily routine? These steps will help you:

  • Analyze the course of the day so far
    Take a close look at how your day is going right now. It's best to write down a schedule that gives you an overview of what you do day in and day out. It is important to note the exact time. When did you start? How long did it take you? You should do this for several days.
  • Identify bad habits
    In the second step, you critically question where in your daily routine up to now you are hiding bad habits that you would like to change. Three hours in the evening on the sofa - does that have to be? Shouldn't there be more exercise than a five-minute walk to the supermarket?
  • Adapt processes
    Now you need to take action: change the bad habits and behavior patterns. Take your schedule and cross out the items that you don't want in your daily routine. With others, you can adjust the period if you want to spend more or less of your day on it.
  • Maintain daily routine
    The above discipline is all about implementing and maintaining the new daily routine. Falling back into the old routine after a day doesn't do any good. Only in the long term will you benefit from an adjusted schedule.
  • Build in improvements
    Your daily routine shouldn't be irreversible. Check regularly whether your processes and the planned times still match your daily rhythm. Through your experiences, you will notice where more time is needed - and where you want to waste less time.

Your daily routine can only be set individually. You need to consider your chronobiology as well as numerous personal factors: job, working hours, family life and of course your own wishes and priorities. The individual points in the daily rhythm are of course still similar.

We have therefore put together numerous examples for your orientation. You can incorporate these into your own personal daily routine and adopt them. For a better overview, we have divided them into different times of the day:

In the morning

  • Stand up
    Schedule a time to get up every day. A regulated sleep rhythm is the basis for your daily routine. If you get up early, you have more of the day and can do a lot in the morning - but you definitely need enough sleep. Otherwise your health will suffer.
  • Morning ritual
    A morning ritual helps to start the day relaxed and in a good mood. The possibilities are many and varied: You can meditate, write morning pages, read the newspaper, watch the news, listen to music ... With a morning ritual, however, you start the morning in the same regular way.
  • breakfast
    A healthy, balanced breakfast is part of the daily routine in the morning. Provide your body with strength and energy for the day. You can also spend time with your partner and family. Talking about the day ahead over breakfast prepares you for the tasks ahead.
  • Sports
    A challenge for those who don't like the morning, but morning exercise is a popular aspect of the daily routine. You get your circulation going, keep yourself fit and do something for your health. It's up to you whether you go jogging, cycling, going to the gym early, or opting for a workout at home.
  • Commute
    Allow enough time for your commute. This prevents stress - even if the train is delayed or you get stuck in a traffic jam.

In the job

  • overview
    Start the working day by getting an overview. What's up for the day (and the week)? When are the dates for meetings? Which projects have priority? If you take a few minutes every day, you will always have an accurate to-do list.
  • Main task
    The first task of the working day should be your top priority. You are particularly efficient, full of energy and creativity. Use this phase for the most important task. When focus and motivation deteriorate, you can focus on smaller and less important things.
  • lunch break
    Definitely take a break for lunch! Not just a quick snack at the desk, but an extended break from work. Go out to eat with colleagues, take a walk, or just do nothing.
  • completion
    Try to complete started tasks within the working day. Plan the necessary time in the daily routine to complete open construction sites. This reduces ongoing tasks and helps you to keep track of things. It is also motivating when you have finally done a task.
  • preparation
    Preparing for the next day should be part of the daily routine. That makes it easier to get started. You can get started right away instead of wasting valuable time in the morning on preparatory work.
  • to clean up
    Before you go home, clean up your workspace. A clean desk is not just a sign of professionalism and respect for the employer. A tidy work environment makes it easier for you to have clear thoughts and to work with concentration.
  • After work

    • family
      When you finish work, you should plan enough time together with your family every day. Regardless of whether it's games, dinner together or a film from the couch. Spend quality time with your loved ones.
