Classic potato salad made easy

Potato salad, the classic in our German cuisine. Since I'm a huge potato fan, I love him too, of course. In my opinion, it is not for nothing that he achieves fame and glory every year on “Christmas Eve”. Together with the sausages, it is one of the most popular foods in Germany on this day.

But not only on Christmas Eve you should pay attention to it. The classic potato salad goes so well with a hearty everyday meal or on the grill buffet. Also as a souvenir for the next school event or meeting with the neighbors. The recipe here is our family recipe. A very simple and classic variant from southern Germany, because that's where I come from. Prepared with broth and without a lot of frills - the classic.


There are endless variations of potato salad, not only with broth but also with mayonnaise. With gherkins, radishes or without. Bavarian, Swabian, Asian or Oriental. There are so many variations that it can get really dizzy. Every family certainly has its own recipe and always prepares it a little differently. I love the classic without any mayonnaise. Because, in my opinion, a potato salad has to taste like potatoes. But tastes are different and that's a good thing 😉. For vegetarians you can alternatively replace the 100ml meat broth with vegetable broth. So my classic potato salad is interesting again for everyone.


But the potato salad recipes all have one thing in common - that is the predominantly waxy or waxy potato. Varieties with beautiful names such as Laura, Linda, Selma, Sieglinde or Nicola. No matter which variety you choose, you should definitely find it delicious, because it forms the basis for your salad.
