Change the language for menus and proofing tools in Office

There are three areas in Microsoft Office that you may want to change the language.

  • The Display language is used in Office for all buttons, menus, and controls.

Configure the language of Office in newer versions of Office

The language options for Office are in the dialog box Office language settings. The display language and the language for creating documents can be set independently of each other. For example, you can customize everything to match the language of your operating system, or use a combination of different languages ​​for your operating system, authoring, and display language.

How to configure the display language:

  1. Select from any Office application file > Options > language out.

  2. Make sure that under Office display language the language that you want Office to use is displayed.

  3. Select the language you want and then click on Set as preferred. If you want to adapt your Office display language to the Windows display language, select Adapt to Microsoft Windows [language]out.

  4. If the language you want is not listed, choose Install additional display languages ​​from Office.com and follow the appropriate instructions.

To configure the authoring and proofing language:

  1. Select from any Office application file > Options > language out.

  2. Make sure that under Office languages ​​for authoring and proofing tools the language you want to use to author is listed.

  3. If the required language is displayed in the list, select it and then click on Set as preferred. If the language you want does not appear in the list, choose add language and follow the appropriate instructions in the dialog box Add authoring language.

  4. If the Language Accessory Pack contains proofing tools for that language, the status is Proofing tools installed displayed. If the status Proofing tools available click the link to install the proofing tools.

Configure the language of Office in Office 2016 or earlier versions
