How about the all-day school?
Half of the general education schools offer it - although less than one in ten is a real all-day school, namely only 33 out of 446 schools.

Where to go after grade 4?
Either high school, community or regional school. Since the school reform in 2007, the latter has united secondary and secondary schools under one roof. In community schools, all children study together up to grade 10 after elementary school. After that, they can take upper school courses at the same school or switch to grammar school.

How about the whole day?
A little more than half of all general education schools are all-day schools - whether open or tied, you decide for yourself. In some cases, it looks like this: All grammar schools are already all-day schools, around two thirds of the district schools and around a quarter of all elementary schools. By 2014, all elementary and district schools are also to become all-day schools.

Where to go after grade 4?
Gymnasium or district school. The latter replaces the earlier Haupt-, Real- and Gesamtschulen. Also new: Instead of staying seated, all schools have targeted support measures.

The primary school advises, the parents decide. The certificate conference decides on whether or not to remain at the grammar school after grade 6.

Gymnasium, Hauptschule, Realschule and many comprehensive schools in a comparison of the federal states. Lower Saxony sticks to the differentiated school system, but tries to combine secondary and secondary schools into secondary schools. Often it is only a matter of maintaining school locations, because secondary and secondary school students continue to be taught separately. This also applies to cooperative comprehensive schools. Integrated comprehensive schools, on the other hand, teach all children together up to grade 10.

High school or secondary school. The latter combines high school and secondary school, with joint lessons in grades 5 and 6. After that, there are separate courses of study, depending on the desired qualification.

How do you get to high school?
The grade point average of the transfer certificate in math, German, specialist knowledge, English must be 2 or better, in the other subjects at least 2.5. Pupils with poor grades who still want to go to high school must pass an aptitude test.

When and how do you graduate from school?
Secondary school students graduate after grades 9 or 10. Alternatively, they can switch to grammar school at the end of grades 6, 8 and 10. High school graduates leave the grammar school after grade 12.

All Berlin primary schools and integrated secondary schools are open, partially or linked all-day schools. Overall, they make up almost half of all general education schools. An all-day high school is currently being set up in every Berlin district.

Where to go after grade 4?
Primary school is actually six years. At the parents' request, however, children can switch to grammar school after grade 4. The secondary school replaces the previous Hauptschule, Realschule and Gesamtschulen. Classes are taught there, while there are courses and learning groups of different levels of difficulty. Community schools are available as a school trial. They are intended to guarantee that classes 1 to 10 can learn together for a longer period of time and that they are more equal.

Up until the 2013/2014 school year, the secondary school offers secondary school leaving certificates after grades 9 and 10 respectively. Where to go after grade 4?
Nowhere - primary school is six years! Particularly gifted children can switch to one of the "ability and gifted classes" at the grammar school after class 4. After the regular six years of primary school, there is a choice of grammar schools, comprehensive schools with upper level or secondary schools.

How do you get to high school?
The total of the grades in math, German and the first foreign language on the transfer certificate for class 6 must not be higher than 7. In addition, a corresponding high school recommendation must be in the elementary school report. If one or both of the requirements are not met and parents still wish to switch to grammar school, the child must take part in a two-day trial lesson.

At secondary schools and comprehensive schools, pupils after grade 9 receive the advanced vocational training qualification, after class 10 the technical college entrance qualification and after class 13 the high school diploma. Where to go after grade 4?
From grade 5 high school, secondary schools, secondary schools and comprehensive schools. Secondary schools are currently being established on a voluntary basis. In other words, cities and municipalities decide for themselves whether to merge their Hauptschule and Realschulen to form secondary schools. There are no upper classes here, but there are collaborations with nearby high schools. In secondary schools, children in grades 5 and 6 learn together, whether afterwards they continue to teach in a class or in the course system is a matter for the municipalities.

How do you get to high school?
There is an opinion from the elementary school, but this is not binding. The parents can vote in favor of the transfer, but the secondary school has the final say on admission.

Haupt-, Real- and secondary schools offer degrees after grades 9 and 10, comprehensive schools also offer the Abi after grade 13. At the Gymnasium there is the Abitur after 12 or 13 years.

High school, secondary school, secondary school or comprehensive school. In addition, intermediate schools are currently being built. There secondary and secondary school students in grade 5 are taught together, from grade 6 the main subjects are sometimes taught separately. In grade 7, the paths separate completely. Remarkable: Some secondary schools offer "SchuB classes" with a maximum of 15 students. They prepare intensively for working life according to the principle of "school and learning in the company" - with three days of the week in school and two in a company.

Gymnasium, comprehensive school or regular school. In the latter, all students in grades 5 and 6 are taught together, after which they are taught separately according to performance level. The transition to grammar school is possible after grades 5, 6 and 10. Interesting: The new community school starts with class 1, relies on learning together up to class 8 and leads up to class 12 to the Abi.

How do you get to high school?
In the transfer certificate, the grades in math, German, local studies and specialist knowledge must be at least "good". For children with lower grades, parents can apply for admission to the grammar school. If it is rejected, the children can take an exam.

Where to go after grade 4?
Gymnasium, Hauptschule or Realschule. Like no other federal state, Bavaria consistently adheres to the tripartite system. Hauptschulen, however, are upgraded to "Mittelschule" if they include the job-oriented branches of technology, economics, social affairs and an all-day offer.

How do you get to high school?
The recommendation of the elementary school decides. Children with an average grade of 2.33 or better in the subjects of German, math as well as home and general studies in the transfer certificate get a high school recommendation, with 2.66 or better a high school recommendation. Anyone who does not achieve the respective grade average can attend trial lessons for three days at the desired school type and must achieve at least grades 3 and 4 here in German and math. After that, the decision is a matter for parents.

When and how do you graduate from school?
Pupils can take the secondary school leaving certificate after grade 9 or the middle school leaving certificate after grade 10, the latter also at the business and secondary school. Teaching there is based on the secondary school curriculum plus individual support, career planning and flexible internship phases in companies. From 2012/13 community schools will emerge that focus on longer learning together, but are not prescribed from above, but are developed through initiatives by cities and municipalities as well as parents and teachers.

The latter combines secondary and secondary schools, begins with a common orientation level in grades 5 and 6, from grade 7 onwards either cooperatively with separate lessons or integratively with secondary and secondary school students in one class, but with separate courses in German, math, English.

Grammar school and currently still extended secondary school and comprehensive school. As of the 2012/13 school year, there will only be community schools as an alternative to the grammar school. Here, secondary schools and comprehensive schools are merged in favor of longer common learning times. The classes are taught up to the seventh year of school, then in the course system. The students should be encouraged at all times according to their abilities.
