Skandagiri is open for trekking

Makalidurga, Doddaballapur

It was fun to give them a weekend trek in this place. We have almost 2 hours to get there. After walking down the tracks there was so much fun and even the trek.

Nice 1 day trek destination, only moderately difficult
It's the perfect place to stay when you want to get out of Bangalore for the day. I suggest you start as early as possible and avoid humidity in the sun. If you start at 6. 30:00, you can easily get back by 12:00. Here is some tactical information: -
Follow the google maps to reach makalidura trail. It will make you turn off the freeway and take the parking lot within 2 minutes. It's right next to the tracks and easy to park here. If you are here on a weekend you will see several cars, motorbikes and buses in my case parked here at 12 noon.
- Just follow the Google Maps directions to start from the parking lot and to the summit. You need to cross the train tracks and within 5 minutes, you will be across a temple. Once you cross the temple, you have two options. Google Maps pulls both the options.
- 1.53 minute route is one to the right after the temple. It's very steep and rocky. For beginners, try wearing a stick to assist you. You can always take frequent breaks as the total isn't much. how about all the breaks you can enjoy the view. You will complete this in 1 to 2 hours.
- The longer route circles the hill and goes from the back. That's why it's longer. It's rise is also is comparatively less steep. The distance is 3-4 times the shorter one so although it's easy, it takes 2-4 hours depending on how many breaks you take. They pass you around the lake, farms, couple of houses, so if you feel more in your way than destination, you should give this a try. It's also less crowded. The path is not clearly marked as an ascent but Google Maps Guide will guide you. It's not your typical jungle with only one path to climb, even if you loose the path for a while, come back to the path with easy direction sense and google maps.
- Cell Network is there almost 100% of the time -
there isn't much to do when you reach the top. You can relax, enjoy the view, check out fort walls and temples, sit in tree shades. A lot of people can be seen during the weekend.
- It's safe for everyone. I saw school children, a witty old aunt, couples, groups of teenagers and young professionals.

Hope you have a great time there. My only wish is strictly to avoid garbage dumping here. It is painful to see bottle, chips packet in the area. A really great thing to do would be to bring garbage bags and bring them while you are trashing down hill.
Have fun!

Avoid the so-called "easy" route!
There is a lot of information already on this place so I'll just give you a few pointers, maybe to help. Personally, I found some of the information on here a little counterproductive. here is my anyway 2 cents:

Parking - some people have suggested parking near the train station and walk on the lanes 2 - 3 km until you reach the trail. Google Maps will show you a nearby parking lot where the trail begins. It's safe to park here so just drive the following Google Maps. Some bloggers mentioned monkey harmless cars, honestly only a monkey the size of a King Kong can do damage to a car!

The two ways - we took the shorter steeper path to climb and the longer "easier" 1 to descend. I recommend the shorter trail that everyone has to climb and descend! I am not an expert trekker and we were able, in 1 hour, to climb to the top with the help of the arrow pens. This trail is maybe 1-2 miles away and you can definitely manage it. The longer trail is about 5 miles and it took me about 2 hours to get down and reach the parking lot! This trail goes behind the hill and is not easy to do. Google recommends you stay away from the longer trail.

The summit - the view is beautiful and I think you can camp here for the night. There is a ruined fort and an active Shiva temple on top.

The lake - there is a beautiful lake behind the hill that you can jump into the lake. If you've used the shorter trail like I suggested then you've saved that you can use to spend 2 hours on the lake. The lake trek was about 2 miles along the longer trail.

worth trek, not that difficult
Bengaluru left at 6am in the morning on bikes, although there was construction on the route the ride was mostly smooth. It took about 90 minutes, including a tea break. We had to turn left a bit before the train station and lead up to Base Hill just before train tracks where we parked our car and started the climb. The way is mostly easy if you step forward once or twice. There are arrows marked all the way up so we just had to follow them. The climb takes about 90 minutes and even less on the way. There is another fort on the top and lots of plants along the way so the experience was really enjoyable. Highly recommended πŸ‘

Good trek of medium difficulty
the trip started at 6. 10:00 am from Mahadevapura. to be reached at 7:45 a.m. Half the distance had construction work. so it wasn't that easy to get to by car.
wanted to park the car in the train station. but looked bad choice. Then moved on to kunjur for breakfast. It was fine, but not bad. The owner allows the car to be parked there.
another 2 km long, now we have a floor and a parking lot. If there are more cars then it's okay it's risky park other than this is completely empty with only monkeys.
8:30 a.m.
There was a temple after crossing the train tracks, a few more km we reached the trail. Some places were a bit steep and difficult, but fun to claim here.
It took 1. Breaks lasted 5 hours because we were hit because of the sun. The view was awesome at every peak. Claimed getting down was easy took 30 minutes. We came at 1am. Had coconut and juice to start with. City reached by 3:30 pm. Total went 7 km of steps

We left Bangalore at 6am in the morning on a very cold winter. The streets were totally foggy and beautiful. There are two ways to get to the top of the hill, the longer we took, it had guided arrow marks. The shorter it is very steep and difficult, the longer it is recommended for beginners. It takes about 90 minutes to reach the top; there are also some remains of an old fort. You can also see a lake / dam as and when you trek. If you wanted to leave early your best bet and avoid sun.

One of my friends recommended it as Skandagiri was closed for night trekker's. The hotel is located approximately 70 km from Bangalore.

We got to the place at 5. At 30:00 in a group of 8 we parked our bikes near a stone quarry (you should be careful to use castle helmets). Fortunately, we didn't have problems from localities before or post trek.

The hotel is nice ✌ for a weekend trek. It takes about 2-3 hours for the entire climb and shutdown. Trekking difficulty is low when one is picking up the trails. It was our first time trekker's in the group, the catches dropped half way. The view from above is great, the train tracks below the mountains are a view when trains pass by. Please drive enough water depending on the number of people at least 2. 5 l / person believe me you will need it. Wearing loose clothing or loose is not recommended it was very tricky all the way.
