What are the goals of social enterprise
Social goals can be understood as all goals of a company that are intended to achieve social improvements inside or outside the company. These objectives often make costs more expensive or restrict entrepreneurial ability to act, but they can also have a positive economic effect. Social goals can complement economic goals that every company pursues.
Corporate social responsibility
Under the heading of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), social responsibility has found its way into many corporate strategies. The term can be translated as corporate social responsibility and includes, among other things, social aspects at different levels. Larger companies in particular develop guidelines and detailed concepts for this.
Social behavior towards own employees
Policy towards employees takes on an important dimension. Social behavior can be seen in these aspects, among others:
- fair wages, participation in company profits
- Job security
- constructive cooperation with the works council
- Extras such as health courses and company kindergarten
- Investment in training and advancement opportunities
Social commitment throughout the production chain
Many companies work with numerous partners. Here too, social goals can come into play, especially for suppliers from developing countries. Companies with social goals ensure that suppliers adhere to minimum social standards in matters such as occupational health and safety, remuneration and co-determination.
Social action can also refer to activities outside of one's own business activity. For example, many companies support charitable activities such as helping the homeless with donations. Some companies also organize charities themselves. A special feature that is particularly widespread in the USA: employers allow their employees to take part in social activities once a year within their paid working hours (corporate volunteering).
The pursuit of social goals does not have to be based on an idealistic attitude, in many cases a company also benefits economically. Examples:
- Employers retain qualified staff with high wages and an attractive working atmosphere.
- Social engagement improves the brand image and can lead to more sales.
- Unsocial behavior can cause scandals and lost sales, as shown in the past, among other things, by reports of poor working conditions in textile factories.
