A drain can go straight down

Washer drain hose - this is how the water drains off properly

A washing machine is part of every household equipment and is usually owned by the individual tenants. Therefore, this must also be put into operation yourself. This can also be done by friends or relocation helpers, but in principle it is pretty straightforward and can therefore be done by anyone. The prerequisite for this, however, are the correct connections for the inlet and outlet hoses. These are also crucial for ensuring that the fresh water runs in and the dirty water runs out. Correct connection is therefore extremely important. Even if the direct connections are not available or are unfavorable in the room, there are options to adapt them.

What to watch out for with the drainage hoses and how they are connected correctly is the subject of the following paragraphs.

These connections are required

Basically, only three connections are required on the washing machine. Two of them are responsible for the water and the third for the electricity. A tap is required for the inflow of water. There is usually a small faucet in the corresponding damp room, if this room is intended for a washing machine. The drain is usually built into the room especially for the washing machine and fits the connections of the corresponding hoses.

A power connection should be available in every room and washing machines are connected to normal power connections and do not require high-voltage current or the like. If it is a foreign model, an adapter may have to be used.

Preparations for connection

Some preparations have to be made so that the drain hose can be connected correctly and the washing machine can then be fully started up. Since it is mostly a move, the room has already been cleared. If this is not the case, good access must be created. You should then check whether the corresponding hoses and cables extend to the connections, otherwise extensions will have to be purchased.

This can be solved for the power connection with extension cables, but a little more difficult with the drain hoses. Since most washing machines are equipped with a transport lock for transport, this must be removed as soon as the washing machine is stationary. Otherwise the device will be damaged.

Connect the drain hose

When the preparations are complete and the hose length is sufficient, the drain hose can be connected. This is usually supplied with new washing machines and has to be plugged into the washing machine or is even permanently installed on the washing machine. In this case, it no longer has to be connected, which saves work, but at the same time makes the hose less flexible. To connect, the end of the hose is then inserted into the special connection on the wall. It is important that the hose is inserted as far as it will go so that it actually fits properly.

In addition, it should not be squashed or kinked, as the pumped water is drained off with a lot of pressure. A hose clamp is used for fastening. This tightens the hose to the drain so that it holds well and no water goes wrong.

It is essential that the hose clamp has the correct diameter for the hose, otherwise it could be loosened or damaged. Mostly, however, these are one-size-fits-all and if not, the clamps can be bought in the tree market.

Extend the drain hose

Often times, the washing machine needs to be moved to a location where the length of the drain hose is insufficient. Since self-made and improvised solutions are usually not a good alternative, there are ways to address this problem. In some cases the hose on the machine can easily be replaced. Then it just needs to be replaced by a longer copy with appropriate connections. If this is not possible, the hose must be lengthened.

There are also very simple extension hoses. These are constructed like the wall at one end and like the normal hose at the other end. This means that the hose that is too short can easily be plugged into the extension. However, it is essential to ensure that the hoses fit together and can be securely and firmly connected to one another. In addition, the hose should not be extended too far, otherwise the pressure of the pump may not be sufficient.

After the extension, the washing machine can be turned on for a trial period. You can keep an eye on whether the hose is actually tight. Keeping buckets ready can prevent later water damage.

Improvise the drain

Often there is no desired drain for the washing machine in the kitchen or bathroom. But that's not a major problem for the washing machine or dishwasher, as there should be other drains. These include, in particular, the washbasin, toilet and bathtub, with the washbasin being the simplest of the three variants. To do this, the siphon below the wash basin must be replaced.

A new one with a suitable connection is then required. However, there should still be an odor trap. In addition, a valve is required so that no water runs into the drain hose. The drain hose can then be connected to the new siphon.

In principle, the drain hose on the washing machine is one of the few elements that has to be connected. In most cases this is very easy and can be done in a few simple steps, but it depends on the room whether it is actually easy. Therefore, the task can be quite difficult and may require some skilled help.

The drainage hoses are one of three elements to be connected to the washing machine. They are attached to the connection and then fastened with hose clamps. If there are problems with the length of the hose or the connection, there are extensions and the option of adding it to the sink drain.

🔩 How is the washing machine drain hose connected?

To connect, the end of the drain hose is inserted into the connection on the wall. It is important that the hose is inserted as far as it will go, and it should not be crushed or kinked. A hose clamp is used for fastening.

〰️ Can the washing machine drain hose be extended?

There are also very simple extension hoses. This means that the hose that is too short can easily be plugged into the extension. However, it is essential to ensure that the hoses fit together and can be securely and firmly connected to one another.

🔧 Can the washing machine drain hose be connected to the siphon?

Yes, that is possible. There are special models for this which have a suitable connection for a washing machine.

🔌 What connections does a washing machine have?

A washing machine usually has three connections: one connection is for the water inlet, one for the water outlet and one connection for the electricity.
